Conversations and Meditation in Motion Series

I am excited to start this Monday series. This is a new chapter in my life after years of performance and teaching, I am now leading conversation sessions thanks to Marv Thomas wise mentorship. . Collaborating with Marv has been such an adventure. Every Monday is full of new subjects: from qigong, psycho-drama and bio energetics, to how to lead a group and how to manage my time. I have been learning a lot from him, and hosting What do Women Want series at his home/institute is not going to be the exception. I feel blessed and excited.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://dianagarcia-snyder.blogspot.com/2009/04/what-do-women-really-wants.html' title='What do Women Really Want? Dance Research Foundation, seems simple and easy to remember. I thought about this after visiting BQDance rehearsal. My friend Carla is about to premier a site-specific in Georgetown here in Seattle. I realize that this foundation can help choreographers like Carla to explore and think about new ways to teach and choreograph.

It was nice to see Hendri, Sruti, Katy and Fritz. I met many academics from various universities. Their comment and feedback made me realize that I do want to build a dance company. A research dance company. Lets call it DGSProjects for now, although it is not very fancy: This company will tour presenting multimedia performances, site-specific and dance installations at galleries, museums, universities and alternative places. The core and heart of this company will be Butoh and Dance and Technology concepts. DGSProjects will also provide two kind of workshops one in Butoh and Butoh Ritual Mexicano (Taught by Diego Piñon, Sheri Brown and me) and the other in Dance and Technology ( Eunsu Kang and me). As a community component for this research dance company I want to build a website where other dance researchers can post their projects and explain what are their initiatives. The goal for this membership website will be to have a database of dance researchers and projects so at some point their work can be funded and developed (This means that DGSProjects would need to work as a dance foundation (?) as well, but I don't know how this can be done)

Videos on Youtube and Blog

Uploading videos on YouTube is not that complicated. I am sure that some of the students already know how.
I found a lot of help on YouTube site. The basics on how to upload the video are in http://www.youtube.com/youtubeonyoursite, And at http://www.youtube.com/t/howto_makevideo they indicate that the videos need to be saved as a Quick Time. MOV, MPG or MPG4.

For those new to this process, follow the following instructions:

Steps to save your video to view it on Youtube
1- Open your movie on iMovie
2-Go to "file" and click on "share"
3-Click on Quick Time
4- Click on "Compress movie for" and choose "web"
5-Decide where you want to save this new video
5- Wait a couple minutes (5-10)
6- You are done with this part!

Time to upload your video on Youtube

1- Open and account on Youtube
2- Fill the form, choose a password and username
3- You will receive an e-mail from YouTube to confirm your account
4- Open your e-mail. Click on "confirm your account" on that e-mail
5- You will be directed to YouTube site again where you can put your username and password
6-You will be asked to upload the video you just saved for the web from iMovie
(This will take a couple minutes depending of how long is your video)
8- A page with an HTML code will be displayed
9-Copy that HTML code. You are going to need this to paste it on your Blug

Adding your YouTube Video to your blogg

1-Open your blog
2-Click "Customize"
4-Click "Add a page element"
5-Select HTML/JavaScript and then "Add to Blog"
6-Write the title of your video-dance
7- Paste the HTML code you had from YouTube
8- Click "Save Changes"
9-View your video (Press the play icon (tingle) in the middle of the image
10- Done!!!! You did it!!!!

Preparing for the final study

No class, the Undergraduate Research Symposium was today and I wanted them to have the day to work on their study. I wonder if I am giving them a lot of days to work on this final video dance. I guess the results will tell me. Personal meetings will run on Tuesday and Thursday therefore I need to finish my comments for each of them. Yesterday I met with Kristen, her idea for this final study is full of interesting symbols and we came up with a couple metaphors. I spoke with Thomas as well his idea of creating video dance without dancers and using only wooden figures is fascinating although very time consuming. We will see!

Study 4 "Final Video Dance"

I am preparing the questions for tomorrow's trivia for Chapter 3, 4 and 5 of our book "Making Video Dance" we are going to talk about storyboards so I got some samples plus the one from "Mu"
It is time for the students to start with their bluggs and finally I am getting to finish this so they can see a sample.
